Mid 2025. Bert Ernie has been dispatched by Diziet Sma from Falling Outside the Normal Moral Constraints on behalf of Special Circumstances to Earth to serve as Cultural Ambassador to the indigenous population of Earth.
What the hell does that mean?
Translation:
The utopian anarcho-communist-techno-collective (from a part of the cosmos far from Earth) has had enough of humankind’s inability to behave rationally. So the group that is responsible for the handling of unusual, tricky, secret, or otherwise “special” situations (known as Special Circumstances) has assigned one of their agents, Bert Ernie, to serve as a cultural ambassador. His artistic work explores the human condition. His paintings are packaged in one of three forms. Realism, Traditional Abstraction and Digital Abstraction. All three forms invariably touch on two concepts – beauty and madness.

Traditional biography of an artist:
Born: March 1968.
Early history unknown until the age of 27, when Bert began to paint.
Dude painted some photorealism like images usually ripped from a magazine. Nobody noticed or cared. Did that for many years. Started traditional abstract painting on the back of those realist works as a way of keeping the MDF support from bowing. Dude started to prefer the abstract art. Nobody else noticed or cared. Started digital abstract painting to grow his overly large noggin some more. Nobody else noticed or cared.
Mid 2025. Diziet Sma has an idea. Speaks to the Mind (Super powerful Artificial Intelligence) that is the sentience behind The Culture’s most powerful warship. Long back and forth, pros and cons. Apparently, the best solution was to bump old Bert down to the planetary surface and let him scream, thrash and shout.
And here we are. Mid 2025. Humankind are about to embark on wide-scale warfare. So sit down, hang on and take a ride into the insanity and beauty of the art of Bert Ernie.
