Bert is trying to look like a tough guy, ready to fight. He didn’t quite succeed.

This is a rather small painting, and hence it was a little challenging.

Painting hair is really hard. None of the photorealist painters manage get that part of a portrait right.

The story behind Self portrait 2012

Bert took a series of photos in about 2004 where he intended to look like he was ready to fight somebody. The intention was to create something different within the portrait genre. Bert entered this in the 2013 Archibald Prize and it didn’t tickle the judges fancy.
