Bert Ernie is one of those radical lefties. The most fitting description of his political views is that of an anarcho-communist. So it’s rather fitting that he should paint a prominent anarcho-syndiclalist.
Noam Chomsky and Penny Rimbaud have had the most influence on Bert’s political views.
Noam signed part of the Crass booklet for Bert. He read the poem and appreciated its powerful anti-war message.

The story behind Noam Chomsky
Bert Ernie painted this portrait of Noam Chomsky as a tribute to one of the most exceptional human beings alive. He was honoured to be able to present the painting to him when he was visiting Australia.
Bert first discovered the work of Noam when he was about 16 years old. This happened as a consequence of my being exposed to a whole world of anarchist politics via punk rock music. Since that time, Bert has grown to consider Noam Chomsky to be one of the greatest thinkers of the modern era, and along with this, he is also an incredible humanitarian.
Chomsky’s passion for the telling of difficult truth in the face of power has often caused problems; he was on Richard Nixon’s ‘enemies list.’ He is someone who opposes war, opposes greed, tyranny, and oppression.
