When Bert was young there was this very cool Australian rock band – Skyhooks. The lead singer went by the name of Shirley Strachan. One song of theirs has had a signifigant imapct on his thinking – Ego is not a dirty word.
Bert’s latest digital abstract paintings are some of his best work. They are full of clues, references and visual excitement.

The story behind Shirley Strachan

Ego is not a dirty word, it’s a part of who we are, a flame that burns within, a guiding star. It’s the voice that whispers, to chase our dreams, to stand tall and proud, and dare to be seen.

Ego is not a curse, it’s a power to wield, a force that we are told should be concealed. But it’s what drives us, to become famous before we get too old.

It’s the courage to stand face to face with our fears. And the strength to believe, in our hopes and also our tears.

Ego is not a weakness, it’s a force of nature, a wild wind that blows, and part of the human spirit that knows. 

So embrace your ego, let it shine bright, a beacon of hope, in the night’s dark. For ego is not a dirty word, it’s a part of who we are, a flame that burns within, a guiding star.
