The story behind Boxing Match
This portrait is a recreation of one of the boxing matches that I fought as an amateur fighter. I was matched against a far more experienced opponent called “Omar the Destroyer.”Let me recount quickly what happened. The fight started with me dancing lightly on my feet, trying to avoid getting hit as Omar charged forward trying to connect with one of his massively powerful punches. Slipping past the flying fists, I constantly taunted Omar with a constant stream of remarks about his intelligence and his hygiene. Eventually, the first round came to an end, and we each retreated to our respective corners.
My coach then asked me to go to stage two of the plan. I nodded a quick yes – I knew I had the skill, and power, to emerge as the victor. The bell rang, and both of us charged into the center of the ring. My coach had told me to fight with the idea of throwing the quickest left jab I could and follow up with a strong right hook to my opponents face. And then to repeat it. Over and over. The first few combinations were fended off, but eventually, my sheer skill and speed overwhelmed poor Omar – I proceeded to smash the brutes face to a bloody pulp.
With exquisite skill, I have depicted the final blow that ended the fight and sent poor Omar sprawling to the canvas with this lovely work of abstract expressionist art.
