Photorealist painting – Sea slug
Early photorealistic painting
One of my earliest photorealist paintings – ‘Sea slug’ was painted for a friend who gave it back when the home made frame fell apart. This painting was painted using a variety of techniques. Brushes, cotton buds, bits of rag and fingers were all used. The learning process of imitating a photograph, by painting it, was a hard one for me. It took many years before I began to feel confidence with tackling really difficult source photographs.
The sea slug is a ‘Nembrotha Purpureolineata’
