I am trying to look like a tough guy, ready to fight. I didn’t quite succeed.

  • This is a rather small painting, and hence it was a little challenging.
  • Painting hair is really hard. None of the photorealist painters manage get that part of a portrait right.

Dimensions: 39x27cm.
Painted: 2012.
Materials: Acrylic on MDF board.

Availability: This painting is in a private collection.

The story behind Self Portrait 2012

I took a series of photos in about 2004 where I intended to look like I was ready to fight somebody. The intention was to create something different within the portrait genre. I entered this in the 2013 Archibald Prize and it didn’t tickle the judges fancy. I don’t blame them.
