Description

One summer, I was fortunate enough to witness an orgy of butterflies. I was out walking in the forests surrounding Yarra Glen when I heard a soft but distinctive sound. It was like a faint humming which was occasionally interrupted by little chirps and squeals of delight.

I walked to the place where the sound was coming from and found a clearing in the forest. In the middle was a swarm of tens of thousands of different butterflies – it had to be some mating ritual. The butterflies were all in flight, clinging to another butterfly or even a group of several butterflies. Hundreds of different species of butterflies, big, small, bright, colorful were flying in the air utterly uninhibited in a wild party of lust.

The strangest part was the sound they made. The underlying tone was a faint humming, but I could hear the sounds and words of ecstasy that you would associate with human sexuality. There were words like “Ooh yeah baby,” “just like that” and “oh, oh, oh, ah!” emanating from the butterflies. These sounds and words became more frequent, gradually building up into a crescendo. With a muscular spasm, the entire group of butterflies shook violently in the air for a few seconds and released a mighty cry of ecstasy.

I ran away, feeling shocked, and returned home to recreate what I saw with my paints and brushes – a wild orgy of butterflies.
